Qualifications

 

Required

-Current State of California Paramedic License

-Class “B” non-commercial CA DMV license (or the ability to obtain one within six months of hire date).

 

Desired

-California State Firefighter-1 certificate issued by the CA State Fire Marshal’s office.

-Current paramedic accreditation in San Joaquin County

-Fire Science classes and /or certificates

-Firefighting experience

 

Job Description

Schedule:   Employee will be scheduled an average of 56 hours per week (3’s & 4’s).

 

Duties:   In addition to responding to emergency incidents, the employee will be expected to perform any and all duties consistent with the Fire District’s operation.  A more detailed job description is available at the District office.

 

Wages and Benefits

 

Salary:

$47,447 annually during probation (probation period is 18 months).  After successful completion of probation the salary is $49,820 annually (current MOU under negotiation.)

 

Benefits:

-Vacations-                          

    *After 1 year-       56 hours annually

    *2-4 years-            112 hours annually

    *5-10 years-         168 hours annually

    *11+ years-           224 hours annually

-Holidays-                            

    Paid in annual lump sum distribution

-Sick Leave-                        

    156 hours annually (credit for unused sick leave at retirement)

-Uniform Allowance-         

    $775.00 annually

-Health, Dental, Vision Insurance provided by the District for employee and dependants.

-$50,000 Life Insurance policy provided by the District

-Long Term Care Insurance provided by the District

-Retirement:  The District contributes 15% of employee’s salary to the employees retirement plan (SEP-IRA) Employee has option of contributing an additional 10%.

 

Application Process

-Applications are available to be picked up at the Ripon Fire District office located at 142 S. Stockton Ave, Ripon, CA  (209) 599-4209.  Applications WILL NOT be mailed or faxed.

-Application, Resume, and copies of all certifications must be received by the District office by 5pm on Friday May 20, 2008.

-Qualified applicants will be notified of their invitation to the testing process.

-The testing process shall consist of a Written test, Paramedic Skills test, and Physical Agility test.

-Successful applicants will also be subject to Oral interviews, Background investigation, Medical examination to include drug screening.

 

About the District

Ripon Fire District has a population of approximately 20,000 residents and covers 55 square miles of urban and rural areas.  The District has 2 stations and employs 1 Fire Chief, 14 career fire suppression personnel, 2 administrative staff, 8 reserve firefighters, and approximately 35 volunteer firefighters.  The District operates an ALS Engine and ALS ambulance.  The District responded to approximately 1550 calls in 2007.

 

Additional:  By end of probation firefighters must reside within 1 hour driving distance of District border.
