Post 904 was established in September of 1997 to give the young people of Ripon an opportunity to observe, first-hand, what a career in the fire service entails. Explorers participate in classroom sessions as well as hands-on training. The same curriculum used in entry-level firefighter training is used to train the Explorers. This curriculum includes such topics as fire behavior, fire suppression, personal protective equipment, hose, ground ladders, rescue practices, and much more.
The Ripon Fire Department Fire Explorer Post is a youth organization sponsored by the Ripon Fire Department, and chartered by the Boy Scouts of America.
Since 1997, the members of post 904 have attended the four-day live-in academy sponsored by the Regional Fire Training Center in Modesto, as well as a three-day wildland fire training academy.
Post 904 is proud to have promoted Gary "Ole" Cook, Seth Heatwole, Andre Locarnini, Robert Lopez, Kirk Rangel, Scott Valencia, Greg Selvera, Kevin Kashur, Andrew Quimby, Tyler Born, Kyle Alvarez, and Dan Andrade to the volunteer ranks over the years and we look forward to seeing our members of Post 904 continue to progress up the fire service ladder.
